That's usually the problem. If someone messes it up, they still don't get it right even with rework. That's how it was with our wooden staircase. In the end, I reworked the landing and will also fix the color blemishes myself. Otherwise, in the end there will be more white paint on the stained wood than on the stringers.

We are already this far, the tiler has initially approved €2000 off the total invoice and left the decision to us whether that's okay or if the floor should be redone. Until now, we hadn't decided; now the tiler supposedly talked to a friend who is an expert and now says that a €1500 discount is the absolute maximum and that we should still pay €500 more. However, he would also remove and redo the entire floor, but then we would of course have to pay the full €2000.

My main concern is the warranty for the other trades like the painter and plumber. Furthermore, I don't believe he can properly redo everything for €2000; the waterproof slurry on the floor needs to be reapplied, the connection tiles in the shower are also crooked at the transition, the baseboards all need to be replaced, and a plumber has to uninstall and reinstall the cabinets, washbasin, and toilet...

So the question is simply who takes responsibility for the warranty on the altered trades?

We would prefer to keep it at the €2000 discount; we have already gotten used to the appearance. What we cannot accept is that he now wants an extra €500.

You want to have your bathroom tiled for free, so to speak, and then rather keep the damage? Then it can't be as bad as you describe, or you are just eager for the money...

Hello??? I told you that we can live with it. And it’s not about getting the bathroom for free, it’s about the fact that he now wants €500 back from his original €2k and is putting a gun to our head! Either we pay or he rips everything out again!

And the €2k definitely isn’t enough for the whole bathroom..... we had a total bill of over €20k!
