Just so - with us it is exactly the same.

"Tiles: The tile value amounts to EUR xy including VAT. In the bathroom, tiling goes up to 1.60 m high, in the shower area... blah blah... On the ground floor, in the kitchen... cement-gray grout..." - nothing about size. Nowhere. However, with us, there is also no mention of additional costs for 30 x 60 cm tiles. There are hardly any smaller ones anymore, especially for flooring.

So it happens. Whether it is good is another question... we should have specified many more details as well. You’re always wiser afterwards, unfortunately.

Hello Bauherr32 and all other users,

I have the same problem with the tiles as you do.

In my construction description & in the developer's offer, no tile formats are specified!

Now they also want additional costs from me for the installation of special formats (30x60 wall tile & 60x60 floor tile).

The construction description & the offer say (prices & m² now changed by me) the following:

- Wall tiles 40 m²
- Floor tiles 20 m²

for bathroom and guest WC = € 4000,-

As mentioned, formats were not specified.

But now I am also supposed to pay a surcharge for the installation, yet the fewer m² that I actually need are not credited to me.

Example:

- Wall tiles 20 m²
- Floor tiles 10 m²

So the difference of € 2000,- for the lower quantity should be credited to me as well.

This would more or less financially neutralize, meaning the additional costs compared to the smaller area.

This is also not done by the developer.

How should I best proceed?

In this case, it really is the developer who suffered because of his inaccurate description.

And honestly, the formats are currently standard in my opinion. At least 30x60 tiles are offered as standard floor tiles in all stores. This is the current building trend or what tile manufacturers primarily produce and offer.

I also know the argument now that the installation is more complex. Sure, the tiler can’t help that, but I have my contract with the developer.

Does anyone have tips for me? Or Bauherr32, how did it go for you?

Best regards and I look forward to responses,

Schnulli

Hello community

We also have a question on this topic. We are building with a developer and have the following under tile work:

"Floor tiles: ....tiles of the 1st choice, including matching baseboards, will be laid. The tile price is purely material cost up to 28€/sqm, including baseboards, including VAT. Additional costs for installation from the size 33x60 cm."

The tiler now comes to us with extra costs for waste and additional effort for laying due to large-format tiles. We somehow do not accept that. Even if there was probably a typo at 33x60. Whatever - that's how it is in the notary contract.

The developer is now playing dumb and believes that waste and additional installation costs must be paid by us.

What do you say about that?

Regards

@ Diera, unfortunately you don’t write anything about the format you want to publish... What is signed in the contract counts!

Thank you for the quick response. They decided on 30x60 for us. However, this was not signed in advance, but was supposed to take place directly during the sampling.

30 x 60 is smaller, and the construction service description from the builder applies. Therefore, the builder should deal with the additional cost, you have the contract with the builder.... that's how I see it as a layperson who has read up!

We only had 30 x 30 in the construction service description, inquired, and luckily 30 x 60 is also without additional costs -> confirmed in writing
