Cost overrun in garage construction, what is the legal situation?

Hello everyone.

I have a question regarding a construction cost overrun related to self-performed work. We built at a fixed price. However, some things were done as self-performed work. For these, the costs for the materials were estimated by the architect so that we would not exceed our financial framework. However, the costs for the self-performed work were now much higher. For example, we planned the garage completely as self-performed work. The architect estimated about €10,000 here. However, the garage now costs over €20,000. This calculation only includes material costs. Any labor costs (e.g., gate installation) or additional costs due to special requests (electric drive) that have arisen were not included.

An overrun of 100%, and this only for the garage. What is the legal situation here regarding construction cost overruns? I hope you can help me. Many thanks in advance.

A prefabricated garage is completely available in 9x3m for under 10k. Maybe you haven't clarified what kind of garage should be installed?

The garage is 7 x 8.5 meters in size and was completely designed by the architect. No prefabricated garage, the garage was built exactly according to the plan.

Hi,

was the garage built as planned (so also estimated)? Or were there too many extras?

Did you have the costs for the garage estimated by the contractor or by an "own" architect? And did this architect then also make a plan?

Regards

Hello. I am quoting a few passages from my posts again: So the garage was built exactly as planned. Additional costs like the mentioned gate drive were of course not charged. That means only small extras like in the example were added, therefore the remaining costs were not affected. The costs were estimated by the same architect as planned.

then I would talk to the architect and ask him how such a high difference could have arisen. He must be able to explain that to you....
