is that even possible? the neighbor would then have no exterior facade on one side :)

with the construction companies and their subcontractors, you can hardly save anything by having a semi-detached house, as each extra is treated like a new customer (they get their money for what is already ordered anyway ...).

you don’t save much, but the last 20-30,000 euros are exactly the difference between simple and good equipment in the house. and the money saved can then be invested in more electricity, nicer front door/stairs/bathroom, etc.

As far as I know, it is always 2 walls, each of the houses has its own wall. Otherwise, the whole thing would legally be called an apartment and not a house. We are building a semi-detached house independently of our future neighbor, each has its own wall with an air/insulation layer in between. Also important for sound insulation. Usually, the staircase is on the wall and you really don’t want to hear the noise... Each half of the house must also be constructed in such a way that the neighbor can demolish their half again without the other house sinking. Especially important if one wants a basement and the other does not, as is the case with us.
