Our new tar terrace on the south side needs a floor. It would be great if it stays dry underneath. The first thing that comes to mind is aluminum tread plate.

A friend said you probably can't walk on it in the summer anymore because it gets too hot!

Does anyone have/know this problem?

It won't feel any different than the hood of a car in the sun. Honestly, how does anyone come up with such nonsense?

Maybe you could add a few more coals if it doesn’t get warm enough?

The idea comes from a metalworker who covered a narrow exit at our house with such aluminum tread plate and said that this was his standard material choice.

and these ledges get very hot in summer. For a spot where you don’t step on it, it’s okay. Otherwise no. So definitely unsuitable for a terrace.

But not for a terrace! A much more durable perforated sheet would be recommended there.

Against, because:
- gets incredibly hot in the sun
- appearance and feel on the feet
- cost

For, because:
- in summer, no need for grill and pan, thus energy-saving meal preparation
- extraordinary and probably unique appearance in Germany
- easy to clean with a high-pressure cleaner
