Or locust, untreated it has a service life of 30 years outdoors. By the way, wooden terraces should never be made with grooves because water stays longer in these grooves than without grooves, which damages the wood accordingly.

Locust is by the way the hardest classified wood, even before oak, and it simply looks stunning when used in 50mm narrow boards and screwed with hidden fasteners. And a decisive advantage: it does not tend to splinter, so barefoot walking is expressly allowed!

The true connoisseur, who does not care about the last penny, chooses Burma Teak, in plank decking construction. One should note the unfortunately illegal, yet still unsurpassed rainforest wood, not from plantations, with standing annual rings. (On Tuesdays at half past two he is always ironic)

Oh good post.

We currently have grooved Siberian larch.

The terrace is now about 3 years old and splinters so much that the children cannot walk barefoot. !!!!! A catastrophe. !!!!

I am now considering paving the terrace in the new building because I hate these splinters.

Or does anyone have longterm experience with wood in a similar price range as Siberian larch?

Just like that. Larch without grooves and then treated with Olassy UV, it's done at hotel pools, does not splinter, lasts. Karsten

My husband said that without ridges it becomes too slippery for him, so he would constantly have to be careful not to fall on his nose. It would be like that even when the wood is wet. Is there any truth to that?

I would suspect the same.

Smooth terrace boards are like slippery soap.
Moss builds up quickly there, I think there's no fooling oneself.
