I was at a parquet store today and looked at parquet and vinyl there. The retailer recommended that if we choose vinyl, we should take it not as a click solution but as a glued solution. With the click solution and its thicker underlay, too much heat would be lost. Most providers would not like to talk about it, but it is so. Definitely glue only! His actual advice, however, was parquet. Regarding whether sealed parquet is harmful to children’s health, he couldn’t say anything. Besides such click parquet, he also had real wooden planks on site. I really liked those. But I just can’t get used to the idea of them getting damaged, stained, etc. On the other hand, I found the vinyl from the company [Gunreben] to be qualitatively okay, but somehow it also goes against me to use such plastic in a wood look. The next visit will be to the tile studio. The decision won’t be easy if you want to have only one floor covering per floor. In terms of price, vinyl and click parquet were about the same. Both including installation, 50 €. The wooden planks already go up to 65 €.

What should be worse about oiled wood than about plastic planks? And about the price: if it is high-quality parquet that is properly installed, you will be between 80 and 100 € per sqm.

Oiled wood is not a problem. How do you come to that conclusion?

What kind of plastic planks? Do you mean vinyl (plastic)?

Oiled parquet, however, was not mentioned as harmful. I only read something about sealed parquet somewhere.

We were at a large parquet store today. There they recommended that it’s better to avoid underfloor heating for parquet. An alternative would be infrared heaters or heaters with air outlet grilles from the floor area (the name of this heater was not known to the salesperson). We are really not tied to underfloor heating, but we had not considered these types of heating at all so far.
Cork is out for aesthetic reasons. We have not been able to see bamboo anywhere yet.
Vinyl has tactile disadvantages compared to parquet. Even more important, the salesperson said that it doesn’t work without plasticizers – the worst ones are no longer used, but there are definitely plasticizers in it and HE would not let HIS children crawl on it and would choose only parquet.
