Well, I've been driving a €1400 Mercedes diesel for 18 months that consumes 6l/100km. Apart from fuel and one oil change, it hasn't needed anything so far. So what? Always this annoying car question or discussion. In case of doubt, I recommend a 2009 Golf Variant 1.9 TDI. It easily lasts 600,000 km and more. It has air conditioning, electric windows, and it starts. Spare parts are cheap and every workshop knows how to handle it. You simply can't drive cheaper.

It’s about comparison and not some d*** comparison. My wife has been driving a 17-year-old A-Class for 4 years without anything breaking. She also doesn’t want any other car.

I’d rather get higher-end cars. That’s why I’m considering switching straight to an electric car.

So it is a d*** comparison after all. Higher-quality cars... :D

Ever tried it? I'm also someone who has a bit of snobbery when it comes to cars. Recently, I was able to drive exactly that Skoda. It was a pleasant experience, really! But for the typical German, it could be quite an adjustment to accept that with this "higher-quality" car, the fire is simply out at 165. Then it gets limited, otherwise the remaining kWh run out at a kilometer pace. Please don't take it the wrong way... With my "higher-quality" (at least higher-priced) car, I set a cruising speed between 130 and 140 on longer trips. Still, it was unpleasant not to be able to do more when it might be necessary.

Thanks for the experience. When driving, I am "green"-compliant. Mostly 130 km/h. Rarely higher than 160. Therefore, it would bother me little. How was the acceleration?
