If the parquet is supposed to smell like Frittenbude, that's correct SCNR

Vinyl as a middle ground ... no offense, that's not a middle ground. Vinyl is printed plastic and therefore has nothing in common with parquet or a tile. The only common denominator is the (more or less well) imitated appearance, all other properties are different.

I also think vinyl is rubbish. However, it seems to be currently trending. If tiles feel too hard and cold, slate could be an alternative.

I am well aware that vinyl is neither wood nor tile. The middle ground comment referred to the fact that vinyl is not as sensitive as parquet but not as cold and hard as tiles. I know that vinyl is "printed plastic" and it does not bother me in the slightest. I am also aware that many people have nothing to do with vinyl and that does not bother me either. Tastes differ, so all good. I just wanted to show the OP with my answer that there are other options besides parquet and tiles. It doesn’t have to be vinyl.

I haven’t heard anything about slate yet, but I will inform myself. For us, the final choice of flooring still has a long way to go since even the shell construction hasn’t started, so everything is still open.

With underfloor heating, no tile is cold! We have parquet and tiles and did the transition at the front of the cabinet. Let a strawberry fall on oiled parquet and go unnoticed for a short time. That will never come off again!

Oh, and vinyl is polyvinyl chloride, I didn't want to have it extensively in the house. It will largely come from China.

Not to a large extent. Renowned European manufacturers of vinyl floors have subjected themselves to strict rules and controls.
