That's how it is everywhere, I've experienced it many times. On the phone, it sounded like we could have "real" 100 MBit/s if we wanted to.

And the time frame is also "only" from 8 AM to 1 PM. On the phone, it was also explained that all telephone sockets in the house would need to be checked. I then said that we don't have any telephone sockets, only network cables. He then said that if cables go in and out on both sides of the small Telekom box, then the option is already so "modern" that no technician needs to come into the house. That is also the case with us.

Why someone has to come now after all, even though "the system" indicated that it wouldn't be necessary - we'll see.

I had expected much worse than three weeks' notice and would have been surprised if the credit wasn't as straightforward as it was always said before. From my side, there's nothing to complain about yet.

We have now decided against a conventional telephone connection:

- Telekom only provides 16Mbit/s, no further expansion is planned in the foreseeable future.
- Kabel Deutschland provides 150Mbit/s.
- There is a subsidiary of the municipal utilities responsible for fiber optic expansion, but it will not develop our street within the next 2 years either.
However, an empty conduit for fiber optics is now being installed so that we can easily upgrade later when the time comes.

I will obtain Internet + phone – as is currently the case – via Kabel Deutschland; TV runs anyway via [SAT].

I know that by doing this I am initially at the mercy of KD, since they basically have a kind of monopoly position for our house, but I really have no alternative. And just as a precaution, to be able to switch if necessary, I am not going to pay 800€ or more for the telephone connection, which I probably will never use.

That’s exactly what we’ve decided now! We had originally planned to have both Kabel Deutschland and Telekom install their lines. However, Telekom can only offer 2 MBit/s at our location (no, I did not make a typo ), whereas Kabel Deutschland offers 100 MBit/s. So the difference is enormous. An expansion by Telekom is also not planned in the foreseeable future at our place. Therefore, it was planned anyway to run phone and internet via Kabel, and TV will also run via SAT here. We would have had a Telekom connection installed only as a precaution and "because that’s just how it’s done." However, we have now decided against it because even for us, the 800 € for a possibility that, with high probability, will not occur for many many years is too expensive. A conduit is installed here, though, in case someone wants to upgrade at some point in the future.

I also only took 400 MBit cable. What do you still need a landline phone for nowadays? Everyone has a mobile phone anyway and can be called directly. You also always have it in your pocket, so you don't have to run through the whole house... Thanks to Messenger & co, I don't make more than one call per month anyway.

Making calls can be delegated

Work calls anyway on the company phone
