So I also sleep better knowing somehow to get through a blackout lasting over two weeks. Being fully equipped is expensive and complicated, but having enough water, maybe getting a water filter, and making sure you can somehow cook / eat is not that bad....

When it really happens, the question is what goes down then, and then I don't know if a generator will still do you any good (-;

In recent years, I have very often encountered situations where things I did not consider really likely to happen actually occurred (global pandemic, energy prices at the limit, empty shelves, war in the middle of Europe, etc.). In this respect, I would not underestimate this criterion (having something for emergencies). In the end, it is not a pure cost-benefit decision, which currently weighs against a fireplace. But...

From my point of view, a fireplace is always an add-on that is relatively easy and still reasonably inexpensive to implement, but in case of doubt can be quite helpful. Even if it is just a small 4 kW stove. You can install it yourself, then have it inspected by the chimney sweep. For safety, schedule an appointment in advance. Even then, it can be done in two weeks.

(P.S: Of course, if the power goes out FOR A LONG TIME, a fireplace won't help anymore either, because then it’s about other things – food, gasoline, water, etc. But then it is already too late and we are talking about different conditions).

If you don’t need a fireplace, I wouldn’t buy one either. If you just want a backup heating solution, an 11-liter gas bottle plus a 4.4 kW gas heater for a total of 100 EUR is enough. You won’t get an oven for that price with that performance. And once the drama is over, you can return the gas bottle and easily bear the 27 EUR for the gas heater... There is currently a lot of money being made from panic; a RATION emergency supply for a family of four for 2 weeks is offered for almost 1,200 EUR, backpacks for escape, etc. I wouldn’t let that unsettle me.

For the interior? I am curious to see an example of where one can buy something like that…

I recommend the popular prepper sites on the internet. Just google them. Previously always ridiculed, today the sites are in high demand!

With a gas cylinder, you also bring humidity into the house, a new building is very happy about that :oops:
