The fireplace is not meant for supplementary heating, but to create a pleasant atmosphere, and not digitally :-) Even stored logs look nice. My post is only about integrating it as harmoniously as possible into the living room.

And is that really worth so many purple bills to you? How many square meters (at about €2000) over how many floors do you lose? What does the chimney cost, the additional work on the roof covering, the stove itself? And then the follow-up costs (chimney sweep), with which alone you could heat your house for four months?! And you still have to get rid of the heat...

But I know - you only build once! ;-)

Yes, you said it, you only build once. ;-)
Then I could start anywhere...what do electric shutters cost and do I even need them? What does underfloor heating cost and wouldn’t radiators do as well? I included the fireplace because it fits into our budget, otherwise I would have left it out.

You don't understand me, it was about: If you add heat when it is not necessary, you create a sauna in the living room. That is counterproductive for the atmosphere. Therefore, my sincere advice: take a flat screen, some drywall, and a Raspberry Pi with the random generator for flickering and crackling. That saves the fireplace including the roof breakthrough (and pleases the cabinet in the bedroom). For the money saved, you buy a Transrotor Connoisseur as an analog fan ;-) and take a wellness holiday at the hotel fireplace.

The religious war against the fireplace is slowly going too far now, isn't it? His money, his house, his fireplace.

We use the tiled stove in our still occupied apartment: heating the stove in the evening. It then heats more or less the entire apartment overnight, so that everything is warm from the next morning and the residual heat from the stove even lasts throughout the day. The moment of heat at night is not disturbing (no one sleeps in the living room), but the apartment is warm enough so that there is a pleasant climate during the day. The regular heating is hardly needed because of this. However, very open layout, air space to the second floor, etc., not an isolated living room.

A fireplace will also be installed in our house. Even better if three logs are enough. A small fire also creates a good atmosphere. I want that at home and not in a hotel. What a tip.

Also a nice feeling of self-sufficiency: sitting in a warm house even in case of gas and power failure, being able to warm water/meals, etc.

Yes, with a lot of airspace a fireplace is a great thing. Unfortunately, the current construction costs mean that there is rather less airspace available.

I may not be up to date – but the fireplaces I know often need five logs plus kindling before they really draw properly and don’t just bless the neighborhood with black smoke...

Edith says: Damn – now we have a fireplace discussion again…. ;-)
