I don’t have any numbers yet, but I expect additional costs of 30,000 euros compared to the slab foundation. When I think of the basement, I imagine a bar, ping-pong table, foosball, darts, laundry room, office/guest room, and fitness corner. For that, no office and no utility room on the ground floor where the space is most valuable. I really hope we can manage it including the basement.

And how many years will the foosball and darts be used?

I just wanted to point out the often decreasing usage. Which now can, if you have children, completely fade into the background. With children, there are also very often phases that change quickly. Especially when you suddenly have the opportunity yourself.

What are garage advantages? I only know one, and that would be the door. But whatever, I don't want to start the next discussion here. I just wanted to describe from my perspective what advantages and disadvantages a basement can have.

In our garage, the car is always frost-free in winter, the aforementioned door offers some protection, and in summer it's not as hot inside. That's enough for me as an advantage.

In a carport, the car also stays ice-free

For me, a basement belongs to it - it used to be almost standard anyway, today often not because of the prices. But everyone has to decide for themselves - each side finds its (pseudo) arguments for and against.

You build for yourself, so you have to live with the hopefully well-considered decision.

So my neighbor was just scraping under his carport. I stick to it - carport and basement are worthless to ME. We simply don't have anything that we would banish to the basement.
