Building with or without a basement - experiences

In our construction area in Saxony, out of the almost newly built 50 houses, only 3 were built with a basement. All the others on a slab. One homebuilder has placed an earth cellar on the property. Perhaps the cheaper option than a full basement, of course only with an appropriate plot size.

There are certainly also functioning white tanks. Building a white tank is certainly the right decision for many depending on the situation. I just want to share the following thoughts: As the client, I am then dependent on very good executors and execution. And making this choice is a risk for me. The contractor who had problems with the white tanks in our case has been established here for decades and has the very best reputation, is not a low-cost provider. It is also problematic for me that many contractors and service providers are good self-promoters and salespeople who present their preferred variants as absolutely unproblematic and radiate unwavering self-confidence. There is nothing wrong with selling yourself well, but for me, it is not really an indication of what I will get for my money afterward. In this respect, I am more at ease with our decision against a basement.
