Building with or without a basement - experiences

I am surprised that the topic of radon is not mentioned here at all.

We currently also still have 30m2 of living space in the basement. Only - that is dead space. No one uses the rooms (guest room and office) or only sporadically.

And a house can also be built a bit higher even without a basement. After all, there is still a slab underneath. We have exactly one step from the house to the street (or we can also do the whole thing without a step if we make the path a bit diagonal) and the terrace will also be a bit higher than the garden.

?..A cellar that is dark and damp and only serves as a storage room is also a rather "conservative" view

But that was exactly THE cellar that no one wanted to do without in the past.

Good that the past is not today, isn't it? everyone according to their taste

But for that in the basement?

Almost - a small moat helped against it, which we wouldn't have been able to create without a basement...

That wouldn't have been enough for us - you would have had to build up quite a bit of ground for that... the soil report wasn't that rocky after all
