Our garage is on the boundary and there it adjoins the neighbor's garage (we are both building at the same time). The garage was supposed to be the permitted 9 meters long for us. The city rejected that. In essence: you have to orient yourselves according to the development of the existing houses, and the storage rooms behind the respective carports always meet on the same line towards the garden. So we had to make our garage 1.6 meters longer so that it ends at the same height as the neighbor's garage. Both of us benefited from that, neighbors and us as well. Great long garage. The fun of the building permit then cost us a whopping 1,800 EUR instead of 600 EUR because two exceptions had to be additionally approved (exceeding the boundary development in height and length). Well. You can't do anything about it. We weren't happy about it either, but after the first shock (and there will be a few more) we survived it too. But back then I could have jumped out of my skin...
