General statements... all three, including yours, are not personalized! You only gave reason for a discussion - so what is there to read into now?

Hmm. I think it’s great when parents give their children generous financial gifts so that it’s easier for them to build a house themselves. In fact, these days it’s probably the case that as a young person you can’t wait until there’s an inheritance before becoming “independent,” including starting a family and building a house, because the parents are still relatively young and fit. The big financial injections certainly make the most sense where the children need them most urgently. On the other hand, as a child you can’t expect your parents to spend their whole lives with no other drive than to shovel money at you [hInterhyprzuschaufeln]. For example, we don’t count on an inheritance if the houses and apartments of my parents-in-law get “lost” along the way, we didn’t bank on it. And my father will surely have made sure with various tricks that I don’t get a cent from the inheritance. There was not a single cent for our house purchase either, we are not disappointed, didn’t expect anything else. As a child, you should be able to manage that somehow on your own. At least then you have the good feeling of having built your life up from nothing, on your own strength. Sometimes that’s worth more than a big financial injection.

The generation 50+ is called Best-Ager! And that is a good thing.

And for a construction project, one is not too old – the real questions are more about financial strength and possible financing. A loan with a very long term should be viewed critically, but there is nothing to be said against a short term or variable financing. And given the current interest rate, that is also quite attractive

I’m almost 60 now and back then we had a terraced end-terrace house that was sold once because it became too big for us and because our paths also diverged. About 4 years ago, my partner and I considered buying something cozy. But as I mentioned elsewhere before, if I’m no longer around, I don’t want my lovingly arranged home to be sold off, or even worse, cause fights between our children. They should, preferably with our financial support, create something for themselves. Another reason against it was that I no longer want to be tied to one location. This might come across as selfish, but please, we worked hard and we deserve to spend the money we earned on whatever we like, whether the youth approve or not. We have the right to shape our retirement in whatever form we want. So if someone wants a little house with an attached raised bed, why not. Our dream is to travel around the world on a container ship immediately after I retire. :) Sent from my mobile device Best regards, Sigi
