From the bare numbers, it is doable. There is no such thing as 1000% security. None of you will be able to hold the place alone if it comes to the worst. But who can with the construction sum anyway. The important thing is not to come out of a sale with debt, and that is definitely not the case with you.

So go for it.

Well, if the parents really step in, then there is indeed this comprehensive insurance 1000%.

So just do it.

I was not referring to the construction sum with my statement, but to the other eventualities. Having to finance an extra 50k€ or borrow from the parents will not make the matter collapse either. It would be unfortunate, but it will not be avoidable without lowering the standard. On paper, the salary sounds good, but the OP still doesn't have more left over than we do after adjusted living expenses. You should take a look at your taxable income regarding the Baukindergeld. Either you are just above or just below the limit. And don't forget, taxable income is not the annual gross income. Several people have already made this mistake.

I always thought we were well above... Baukindergeld income must not exceed €90,000 (+ €15,000 per child, so €30,000 for two children). We're definitely over that...

Look at your tax return to see what is listed as taxable income; for me, it was really ridiculously low because of all the child allowances! For 2 children, it can be 105k€. These are the final amounts listed at the bottom after deducting all positions. Again, this is not about the annual gross income.

Yes, unfortunately we are still above it.
