Cherry laurel is actually out of fashion because it is unecological and there are now pests that destroy it; moreover, cherry laurel wants to grow wide; instead, we planted true bay laurel; it grows significantly less wide; has no problems with pests and also becomes nice and dense. However, the climate must be suitable for you. If you are not exposed or living in a low mountain range, it should work.

2 of our neighbors have placed the hedge on the boundary, each cuts their own, now a dog has arrived and a small fence in front of the hedge so that the dog does not run through the hedge, everyone is satisfied

Boundary fencing. The rules are - at least from the perspective of a North Rhine-Westphalian - not so easy to understand. But the Lower Saxony Ministry of Justice has published a nice brochure on neighborhood law, so that the clear rules can also be understood.

That is not the case.

Then enjoy the reading.

He probably knows the rules and is obliged to fence in and is now hoping for your ignorance and impatience.

That's how it should be.

I will take a look at the reading. Maybe I can talk to him again then.

I hadn't heard before that it is supposed to be unecological. I will see if we can still change our minds. What comes into play here is that we share the hedge on the other side with the neighbor as requested. I will have to talk to him about that.
According to the nursery, the Portuguese cherry laurel is also not supposed to spread so wide. The individual shrubs were also noticeably narrower than other cherry laurel varieties. The leaf is also significantly smaller.

We have agreed on the same with one neighbor, but legally it is not clear-cut with us either. Normally, whoever plants the hedge should keep 50 cm away from the property boundary. As long as the neighbors agree, no problem, then you just put the hedge exactly on the boundary line. It becomes problematic if there is ever a conflict with the neighbor or if one of them sells the house.

In the present case of the OP, it seems there is not 100% agreement about the type and form of the property boundary.
If the neighbor wants to put the fence on the property line and also pays for it, then he has the right to do so. If the OP wants a hedge, then with 50 cm distance.

At least in Berlin, as far as I know, the minimum distance of the hedges is calculated from the center of the hedge. Not from the edge...
