There are no children yet anyway. So you can approach the matter quite relaxed. When a child comes, it will sleep in the bedroom (ground floor) anyway. Then as a toddler, a small bedroom (ground floor, guest room) is enough... play area in the living room... Then at some point it moves upstairs. And you can teach a child that being separated from mom and dad is either absolutely terrible or a really great thing, to have their own floor with a bed under the sloping roof, etc. You also don't have a villa with east and west wings, but everything is central. Basically, this is the best option overall.

On the ground floor, yes, that is executed and fully renovated. It should stay that way because we are satisfied :).

All ceilings are concrete ceilings.

I don't personally find it tragic that there is no window in the hallway; we don’t have one downstairs either. It just means you operate the light switch more often (yes, I know, not a new building or upscale standard :)).

In Lower Saxony, a conversion like the one we plan does not require approval, so we do not necessarily need someone authorized to draw plans. And my experience (e.g., from kitchen planning) is that if you don’t know what you want yourself, no one will do the work for you anyway.

I will take a look at your sketch right away, although I actually wouldn't need a children's bathroom (we also don’t have a guest bathroom downstairs, admittedly :)).

But there is a child, that's why the planning :).

And on the ground floor there is actually no "spare" children's room, in an emergency the study would have to go into the living room, but there is actually not enough space for that and my husband is (in my view understandably) not at all enthusiastic about that option.

And before the question comes up, the basement is also from the 70s, so not a living basement (at least not one where you can set up a cozy study).

But actually that wouldn't change the space requirement upstairs either. As written in the initial post, we don't necessarily need a dressing room. So the plan could also include two children's rooms and as long as there is only one children's room, the parents sleep in children's room no. 2.

This is a good example of why precise measuring is important. In my case, the beam is positioned more in front of the window and then placed in a room. I will take another look to see if I can manage to position/measure it better.

It doesn't change anything. Only now the situation already exists that a child is there. For this one you are building a nice room with the premise that a second one will be added upstairs as well. Planning! The second one as an infant and toddler stays on the ground floor (moves into the current children's room on the ground floor) and later also moves upstairs. You stay downstairs. The room that is "spare" upstairs becomes a play hallway, TV room for the children, hobby room, or study.
