Hello forum,

I am considering installing an undermount sink in the kitchen. On top of it will be a solid oak countertop. The appropriate hole is supposed to be cut and sealed by the supplier. What I am wondering right now: How is the sink attached to the Metod base cabinet (80cm)? Do I need to get any additional fasteners and tinker with the cabinet?

This is the sink I want:

Thanks for the answer.

Hello,
I'm looking for experiences with wooden countertops and sinks. I'm a bit skeptical about whether they will stay nice in the long run if you don't wipe away every drop immediately.

Is this going to be a show kitchen for display or do you want to work in it?

I consider a sink without a draining board and solid wood to be risky. Likewise, the base with cut surfaces across the wood grain – how is that supposed to be waterproof in the long term?
By long term, I mean roughly 15 years.

Your decision, but I would take the Ikea expert's advice about researching experiences seriously.

Work is done in the kitchen and I am aware of the "disadvantages" that some suspect with a wooden countertop. We currently already have an oak countertop. Six years old and still looks top. The trick is only that you care for it with the right products from the specialist trade and not with the rubbish from the hardware store or drugstore. And you don’t have to do that daily. We do it once a year. That’s completely sufficient.

I knead dough on the countertop, it comes into contact with water and oil. Pots are placed on it. Sure, there are signs of use, but no stains, cracks, or deep scratches. No trace of mold or dirt. We only cut on plastic. Therefore, I at least don’t see a problem there. We rarely wash by hand anyway; 95% of all things end up in the dishwasher.

Moreover, we don’t design the kitchen for 15 years. Rather, significantly less because tastes, circumstances, etc. change more often.

Long story short: High-quality wood High-quality care products = A beautiful wooden countertop for a long time

That is interesting. We also have solid oak. Usually, one uses something based on linseed oil. We are currently using Bondex worktop oil. What care products from the specialist trade would you recommend?

With the Ikea sink base cabinet, wood is treated somewhat differently than in the video by the IKEA expert. The cutout is larger than the inner dimension of the sink. About 3 cm is routed out from below. This always creates a horizontal edge, where water naturally settles optimally in the groove and hardly dries off. I don't find that very successful.
