Are non-floor-to-ceiling windows in the living room outdated? What curtains?

Dining room appears significantly larger without pantry

What is probably meant is that the kitchen and the wardrobe are situated in something for which layman's terms like to misuse the term "bay window."

I can understand that. And that is exactly what will take away the beautiful view. How is that supposed to look? Panorama window with restless technology, a piece of furniture or whatever looks really sh***. The view into the distance immediately falls to the near, namely to the thing that is standing there. When you look at the whole thing like that, the floor plan is not thought through at all. I also find the pantry much too dominant in this spot, the kitchen is also very cramped there ... but let’s stick to the subject of windows I also think the argument of feeling comfortable should indeed be the reason to go for windows with sills. Personally, I would take terrace doors and place some plants in front of them. I don’t find the window positions very well thought out either: why should the living room, which already has a panorama window, get a second one, and here with sill windows right next door around the corner? My opinion: that clashes. If you need a TV spot anyway, a small one near the dining area would be enough. Instead, I would give the dining area much more window space, and no matter how big the window may be: sightline! Build a sightline from the entrance dining area directly opposite a window. That is much more stylish. Decoration: If a nice sideboard or cupboard/buffet stands next to a window, and under the window a basket or stool with a blanket or fur on it, that already looks good. However: if you will have these exterior blinds installed, expect that you will make the windows more or less blind or striped. I would probably have taken pleated blinds instead.

Thank you for your support. I am now reassured about the half-height windows; the view to the south is not the most attractive and, as I said, we also do not want people to be able to see us all the way under the dining table. The many windows facing south resulted partly from the exterior appearance, as two double-wing windows looked strange, and we thought that by converting the two originally planned floor-to-ceiling windows into half-height windows, we could enlarge one south-facing window to make it bright enough. So if we now reduce the size of the sliding element a bit to have more space for furniture and also reduce the number of windows facing south, do you think it will remain bright and friendly enough in the room?

Overall, one must also say that we (also due to the current prices) have changed the floor plan several times, not everything we imagined (e.g., a larger kitchen) is currently feasible for us, partly due to cost reasons but also partly because of the location/size of the building plot...

We cannot judge that because you withhold some of the design from us. I wouldn’t do that. I would simply think more about the furnishing and plan accordingly. For example, the sofa is also in the way of enjoying the great view. Those sitting on the sofa do it less or for fewer minutes than those who occasionally catch a great view from the kitchen-dining area. The sofa should be roughly on the left side, TV opposite. The office door is up there, remove it.
