What would be a good-looking steeper slope? 38 degrees?

You have to consider it on a case-by-case basis. Generally speaking, 45° means that at the gable it's 90°, which is slightly less when viewed at an angle, and at 50° it's clearly an acute angle when viewed frontally. Several measurements (ratios) must be included in the overall consideration, as this triangle alone does not "count."

You adjust that to the development plan, the house style, and the space requirements on this floor, and accordingly the built-up area on the ground floor. You can't say that as a general rule.

We have now decided to make more significant changes to the plan. For the ground floor, we have chosen a new layout that is a bit less wasteful of space. We would then plan the children's rooms in the basement and convert the attic into a parents' area. I was thinking of using a roof pitch of 45 degrees with a knee wall of 30-50 cm. I am attaching the ground floor plan + what I roughly sketched as an idea of how the basement and attic could look.

What I think of the children's rooms in the basement, I have said.

The house won't get any smaller now, but the external dimensions are still the same, if I have looked correctly.

That sounds good, and the plans shown are at least interesting, ...

... although I wonder why "chosen"? - a house does not become cheaper just by taking one of the floors from a catalog design; "Hang" is actually always a strong hint towards custom planning.

Such a small knee wall pleases the vacuum cleaner operator, but doesn't achieve much more. In my opinion, a knee wall that does not fully substitute a dwarf wall misses an essential part of its purpose.
