You consciously chose something different, so I would insist on an exchange - he can also return the shiny crap (sorry). I wouldn't let myself be fobbed off with a few euros - you don't have to either. This is a decision for the next 20-40 years...

Yes, you are basically right - sorry, I didn't mean to snap at you. Everything is a bit stressful at the moment. There are still quite a few things involved with the decision... delivery time for new tiles, will the roofer still be willing to do it properly?

No problem, but that's exactly what I know. I spent 14 months of my life on it and moved in 6 weeks ago. In retrospect, I have to say that decisions my wife and I made after a short discussion were the best. Everywhere we thought for ages and weighed pros and cons mostly turned out the way they were at the beginning.

And since building a house takes a long time and there are many decisions to make, it is sometimes better to let your gut decide or not let yourself be unsettled.

Chosen matte, want matte, matte on the roof.
If the delivery time is too long for you, then glossy and a discount because of the hassle.

Good luck with the rest of the house construction.

It is what it is - and whether he feels like it? Sorry, but you must not have that thought.

I have been waiting for almost three weeks now for the roof to continue - it is watertight, but not covered. The scaffolding is still there and because of the missing garage roof, water constantly runs into my basement.

I have always been polite, but towards the end I became firm - that helps, and a craftsman (as silly as it sounds) must have a certain amount of respect for you, otherwise he does whatever he wants with you...

Once again, you take on other people’s problems. Why?

He has to secure the roof in such a way that nothing happens without the tile covering, and whether he feels like it is his own matter. After the work is done, there is an acceptance inspection and the defects are recorded in writing. Hopefully, this would have happened if the correct tiles had been installed immediately.

When I read your recent posts here, I often wonder whose house is actually being built?

I do not call it "adventure" for nothing when I address issues of house building; building a house is an adventure. In your case, it expresses itself, for example, in the delivery of wrong roof tiles; that can happen. Only - both glossy and matte are allowed according to the development plan, so for me the question here is rather one of proportionality. Instead of - like some here - loudly crying out for compensation/demolition, the thought could also occur that you receive added value without extra costs for your single-family house, provided the glossy tiles can be installed; the roofer is already paying for that anyway.

Therefore, decide - without forum opinion (because it is your house) - what you prefer and act accordingly. By the way, take a few days off the internet, not every online opinion has a real basis; a neighbor has no legal grounds to sue you if the development plan allows a glossy roof covering. He would have had sufficient opportunity to object when the development plan was disclosed.

Rhenish regards
