Would you like fences around your house/property and if so, why?

We also have a fence all around because of the dog and a gate in the front. Inside, it is additionally planted mostly with a hedge.

We only have a fence because of the dogs; we never had one before and I don’t really like fences either – they don’t offer any protection against burglars anyway.

For me, my property must be fenced all around; without a fence, hedge, or similar, I would not feel comfortable. On the one hand, we have a dog who should not go for walks alone. On the other hand, I would feel uneasy knowing that strangers or animals could simply enter the property. Sure, people can also climb over the driveway gate, but that is still an obstacle. And I do not want to share my plants with deer either. However, our property is also 1200 sqm in size, so it does not feel like a prison. We have chain-link fencing on three sides. Towards the street, there is a 2 m high bamboo in front of it (from the inside view), which grows through the fence, soon nothing of the fence will be visible. On the side path, we also had a 2 m high hedge until the new building; however, it had to be mostly removed. But there will be a privacy screen again. I do not want passersby to be able to look onto the terrace and into the living room. At the back towards the field, there are trees and loose shrubs, but one can see through, the view of the field should remain open. On the neighbor's side, he has partially built a concrete wall, already before we moved in there; it is his side, I cannot do anything about it. Where I would see it, there are thujas in front.

From the move-in date we had more dog poop on the property than weeds, and it was everywhere. Since the fence, everything is fine. And we don't even see it because we have a hedge behind it.

... with your starting situation, you have it good. You don't have to take any action. The others have their fence, you have the open area in the back.
