Hello everyone,

Last week I went through our terraced house with the electrician and expressed all my wishes to him, including where the access points should be in the future.

I was thinking of Unify Nano, and it is important to me that the power is supplied via the network cable at the ceiling.

Now the question arises for me whether I should have a special cable laid, or does this not matter for the power supply, as long as it's a network cable?

Thank you very much in advance.

Standard Cat.7 is completely O.K. Gladly also Cat.7A if the surcharge is not too steep. All are POE capable. More important is the positioning and the total number of network cables. Also the design of the connectors (modular, keystone, deep boxes etc.) However, there are treatises on this here until you get tired of it ;)

To be well prepared for the future, I would choose a CAT7 installation cable if I were you. A keystone module is then installed on this and connected to the Nano HD using a short CAT7 patch cable. If you value a brand cable, you can use, for example, Draka cables, but it is absolutely not necessary.

What kind of ceiling will it be? Concrete or drywall ceiling? For concrete, a junction box is recommended to hide the cable end inside. For a drywall ceiling, you can also do this in the ceiling cavity.

As for the cable, as mentioned, I would also opt for CAT 7 or CAT 7A. I still run POE over CAT 5E cable, and it works fine.

Thank you very much for the quick reply :) The plan is one access point per floor. (Each about 45m2) Additionally, the home office has a regular network connection.

These are concrete ceilings, I actually don’t know how they are constructed, I have merely expressed my idea or intended use, should I speak with the electrician again?
