What can't you imagine? That you are in an absolute luxury position? Yes, that is the case :(

Congratulations on your property! :)

How did others get on there who weren't candidates before?

Oh yes, believe me: I am one of the envious readers ;-)

We have now been waiting for our chance for almost three years, have spent hundreds of hours with "infill walks" and research, and currently there is nothing concrete in sight. On the horizon, new development areas are emerging, for which the preparation of zoning plans is currently underway, although the planned marketing has already been delayed for over a year. By now, I am an expert in reading the minutes of the building committee and other bodies :D We are currently hoping that the marketing will really start at the beginning of 2022, and then there will again be several hundred applicants for well under 100 plots. If we even manage to get a plot for a detached single-family house, we would be incredibly happy.

So indeed: an apparently very nicely planned new development area and then practically being able to choose freely – that would be a jackpot for us. Congratulations on that!

Apparently, we live in a very construction-eager community – here, every 5-10 years there were small to large new development areas where you could buy a building plot either privately or through the municipality. However, these times now seem to be over. If you believe the city, no new development areas are to be designated here for a longer period. Thank you :)

We changed our minds at short notice. It sounds a bit strange, but we ourselves are a little surprised that we decided on a different plot shortly before the end and did not choose any from our original favorites list. We spent several months dealing with the building plots – talked to the municipality, architects, construction companies, friends and family. Everyone we spoke to about our favorites list or a specific plot just said, “take it, it’s a good plot.” Unfortunately, there was never a thorough weighing of the pros and cons of a particular plot. Either all the plots are good or we are not particularly decisive. The supposed “luxury position” additionally put pressure on us to make the best of our situation and to choose the best plot before someone behind us on the ranking did. Anyway, we will build our little house on plot 1463 (my husband insists on mentioning plot 1517 here and there) and are already looking forward to the next challenges that the construction project will bring.

Many thanks to everyone who tried to help us with the “agony of choice.”
