With us, stone on stone was ruled out because of the Passive House standard. Everyone we spoke to had rejected it. Nonsense. Well then, just make a few different windows and a few more square meters of photovoltaics on the roof. Timber frame builders found it easier and in the end, it was solid wood.

Completely forgot to address the original question: in the very first step, I would consider what is important to you about the house. Ecology? Thermal insulation? In addition to regionality, we especially made sure that the wall structure is functional. We can hang heavy shelves everywhere without anchors. Another, very likable provider could not offer that. We were out at the word "hollow wall anchor." And potentially drilling through a film and thereby risking mold? That was absolutely not an option for us either!

I would definitely do a preliminary sorting according to the wall structure for the HSW. And then take a close look at the description of construction services, etc.

Edit: is there a way to get in touch with the clients of the companies beforehand? Personally and not just in the forum. That was very important to us as well! Maybe ask around among acquaintances or in construction areas.

That's right: the "cardboard box" is just as much a myth as the fixed price or the shorter construction time.

Take the advice of a local GU seriously - that can also be a carpenter.

Whether stone or wood - it's a matter of preference.
Mark Twain, who traveled extensively in Germany, is quoted on this topic:
"I never could understand why the Germans, who have so much wood in their forests, insist on building houses out of stone. Now, however, knowing the quantities of [Rheumabäder] this country has, I realize that the Germans must live in damp stone houses. Where else would they get rheumatism, without which their [Rheumabäder] would be unnecessary."
