Where and how do you collect your laundry?

Hey,

from summer on there will be four of us and we want to build a house soon. I'm currently thinking about the laundry because the current situation at home is really annoying me.

At the moment we have laundry baskets in the bedroom where we throw all the dirty laundry. Before washing, I sort everything. It looks really messy and also takes up a lot of space. And the laundry will only increase as the little one grows, the clothes will get bigger and with the baby there will be even more laundry.
In our own house, I would like to solve this completely differently. But I still don't know how.

A laundry chute is definitely out of the question, ideally I want to put a dryer and washing machine in the children's bathroom on the upper floor. That way I don't have to carry the clean laundry back up from the basement . Now I'm wondering where and how I can best collect the laundry without having open laundry baskets lying around?

How do you do it?

In the new house it will be like this: A second utility room on the upper floor for laundry logistics. There will be 2 laundry cabinets "Lillangen" from Ikea, a washing machine, and space for a drying rack. The laundry cabinets are located right by the door of the utility room, i.e., door slightly open, stuff laundry into the cabinet, close the door again and continue to the bathroom or bedroom.

I've read this several times now about the washing machine on the upper floor... But where do you dry the laundry then? Only in the dryer and never outside? That really interests me.

I admit, I throw everything in the dryer. I don't even have a clothesline or a drying rack. In very rare exceptional cases, I sometimes lay something very delicate on a towel or hang it over the towel radiator.

We have the small utility room for washing and drying on the upper floor - laundry is still collected there (small cheap laundry bags, also from Ikea). Before the new house, we collected everything in a basket in the bedroom, very likely now it will be a stylish basket in the bathroom. I have been drying in the dryer since anno x - now as well ... but I want for some items a rack on the wall that can be folded down (also Ikea?). In good weather, I will probably carry the small laundry downstairs, but when is that ever?! ... Towels, cotton underwear, etc. always come out nice, soft and better than in the air in the dryer - my opinion... and I am not a slave to my laundry and never will be.

Hello.

In our current rental house, we throw the dirty laundry straight down the stairs into the basement.
There it is then sorted in large boxes in the utility room and washed when ready.
The laundry dries on a drying rack in the same room (I admit I am too lazy to carry the rack and laundry upstairs) and then, if necessary, it goes almost dry for a short time in the dryer for wrinkle protection & so that the laundry is nice and fluffy.

In the new house, there is no basement. The utility room is on the ground floor with direct access to the back garden. A rotary clothesline is to be placed somewhere there. The laundry is transported downwards through the laundry chute and sorted again in baskets or similar there.

Why don’t you separate the laundry area from the bathrooms? Then it’s not so bad if it’s a bit untidy in there sometimes.

Best regards milkie
