What kind of spark protection is there in front of the fireplace??

My chimney sweep (a really nice guy) said that he will not approve my chimney as long as there is no spark guard installed.

As always: regulations are one thing, the decision of the district chimney sweep master another. Ours is also a nice guy, but that doesn't make him any less correct in his actions. ;)

We also have vinyl and had the screed around the fireplace lowered by 2cm. This allowed us to "sink" the glass plate and have no threshold. Underneath is the "regular" vinyl. As has already suggested.

Would it work if you extend the fire table around the combustion chamber by 50cm? Then you can completely do without the spark guard.
