As far as I know, we need a room air-independent fireplace, certified according to DIBt. For this case, there are (currently still) no three-sided fireplaces. Besides, the same question would arise then, does it protrude too far into the room?

The usual things that are always discussed in the threads:

- CO2
- Overheating of the room in new buildings due to today's insulation standards
- Possibly opening windows so that the fireplace even gets air to ignite
- Cost / benefit (with controlled residential ventilation, a pressure monitor of about €1000 may be required if it is not an air-independent fireplace)

....etc

What’s the point of having little glass if you then can’t see any of the fire?

edit:

You don't necessarily need a room-air-independent insert. We also do not get the pressure monitor for that.

The approach is to retain heat longer through more storage mass. More glass also means less storage capacity.
