What kind of spark protection is there in front of the fireplace??

The chimney builder suggested that it is best to tile in front of the fireplace. Preferably in the color of the vinyl.

Important: If tiling near vinyl, DO NOT match the color exactly, but create a contrast. Otherwise, it looks awful.

You can also worry too much. My chimney sweep said that I don't need any protection for the laminate after all. The fireplace is closed while in operation and when it is opened for adding more fuel, I stand right in front and can react immediately. In eight years, I never once had the impression that I needed to protect the floor.

My chimney sweep phrased it similarly - but not without insisting that the fire protection standard be met.
