We got the approval for our plot today :-)!

I’ve been thinking about house types, floor plans, etc. for weeks now. I thought it might be helpful to visit a model home park. Just to get ideas and inspiration, and to find out what we like and what we don’t. We don’t want to build a model/prefabricated house, I just thought that would be a good source of inspiration.

Now I’ve looked for model home parks in NRW and there aren’t many. Is it worth visiting a park with about 20 houses or so? What benefit would it bring if we’re not really interested in the providers? Is it a waste of time and should I just keep looking online for floor plans and eventually get some nice drawings made by an architect?

How did you inform yourselves and plan?
Looking forward to some input!

Well, one does not live in a floor plan, but between walls painted with color, on laid flooring, under sloping roofs, and in front of windows. One gets inspiration that also concerns the floor plan design. Every house provider has included special features that others can also offer. My unpopular Vieh..ck led me to our low window band. At Schwörerhaus we found our type of tiles. Also, what one does not want becomes clear after a visit. One also gets to see interior decoration and furnishing – mostly current trends – then one immediately knows that the old sofa will not keep up and that the space in the living area must already accommodate a seating landscape ;)

...besides, a lot of interior is installed in the houses that one may not yet be familiar with. Natural stone meets metal, the toilet on the upper floor stands separately, and the shower is open to the bedroom. Roofs are designed openly, so children’s rooms are built with galleries, the carport has solar panels on the roof, and a tree stands on the terrace. Water does not come from the tap but from a gutter, technology is housed in more than 2 sqm, but there are also alternatives again. Or do you know everything from glossy brochures, do you know every type of heating?

We were in Wuppertal on Sunday and it was really great. We already have quite precise ideas about our house and also know a lot about new buildings because we are among the last in our circle of acquaintances/friends and relatives who are building. But still, I was able to get many suggestions and exact ideas about the dimensions in sqm. For example, the great ceiling height sliding door... *dreamy* Whether we can afford it, I just don't know yet. :) So, just go and have a look! It's also a lot of fun.

We were also in two of these parks, but did not build any off the shelf. I found the room layouts most helpful to better imagine, for example, whether 8 sqm of bathroom is sufficient and whether one needs a 40 sqm dining/living room. Everything is also already furnished and one can better envision whether one could live like that or not. You also get to see one or two clever gimmicks, such as stair stringers recessed into the wall (we "borrowed" that) :o

Hello,

I can only agree with my predecessors. We also got some inspiration or "stole" ideas at the model home exhibition in Fellbach

What also helped us tremendously were visits to customer houses, which many house suppliers offer shortly before handing over the house.

If you register as an interested party there, you will even be invited and don't have to search yourself where the next viewing takes place.

Regards,

Dirk
