The property is a single-family house from around 1961. Now, a complete renovation is planned for the next few years. Over the past years, I have developed and discarded numerous ideas. Currently, I have found a nice solution for the bedroom and the connection for the upper floor. Since my partner and I have not planned to have children, a nursery is actually not necessary. An office/common room is planned on the ground floor. This would now probably give me enough space to plan a spacious bathroom including a bathtub (possibly freestanding), open shower, and possibly even a sauna (big enough for two people to lie down). The problem I am currently facing more is the suboptimal shape of the staircase. Considering the necessary clearance in front of it, unfortunately, only an extremely narrow area remains on the north side that is suitable for almost nothing. So, I have no ideas how to solve this problem. Maybe I will find one or the other inspiration here that will help me move forward. Please also excuse the simple sketch, but it should actually be sufficient for brainstorming. (Please also don't pay too much attention to the windows) North is "down," the beautiful view is south/west.

What is the situation like on the ground floor? The best planning won't help you if suddenly the WC drain would have to be led down in the middle of the living room...

Are there sloping ceilings? Where would these be? Where would the 2-meter line be? If it is a VG, then please forget the last three questions. Where would the structural support of the future walls be? Where is the drain pipe? Where are the cable ducts? And what exactly is the requirement? If you only want a dressing room, bathroom, and bedroom, then the space in front of the stairs is not really a problem, is it? Is this the current state? What are the walls made of? And what must remain standing from them?

There is the guest WC at the bottom left and on the right side the kitchen and dining area (with a width of ~4m). A detailed plan is still missing and must first be reviewed by a structural engineer anyway.

Very rough draft:

No sloping ceilings.
The one wall "in the middle" is the existing load-bearing wall.
The rest (no longer drawn) are purely non-load-bearing walls.

(2m line doesn’t mean anything to me right now)

That works if the load-bearing wall on the ground floor is also constructed that way on the upper floor. The right side over the kitchen will be the bathroom. Pipes can run down along the wall. You can put something in the hallway in front of the stairs so the room doesn't seem so empty. Armchair, dresser, bookshelf...

Can you rotate the staircase or is it still good as is / rotation not desired?
