#2 Tiles in the living area, there is nothing worse ;) Especially in the unheated transitional period, tiles are the opposite of cozy and homely.

Tiles? Bathroom, hallway, kitchen. Yes, there. In the living room areas, no. Carpet, short natural fiber, sisal or goat hair rugs are great, unfortunately I am allergic to dust. Otherwise: Good. Laminate? Really bad. Plockplockplock when walking, plastic and elastic. Vinyl? Also plastic and elastic, but on underfloor heating almost like tile, because it is a great heat conductor. Good vinyl has a nice feel and appearance. Real wood, okay as engineered wood, not for underfloor heating as planks, because it insulates. Does not conduct heat. Unfortunately the same with cork, which is otherwise really cozy. So, what is the compromise? Ours was tile plus vinyl.

Now the tasting round is almost over :D.. I think tiles (high-quality, profiled) are great everywhere. If you don't have children or pets, I only find real wood planks better.

Why doesn't linoleum actually catch on in living areas?

Precisely because some say "Ew, vinyl is plastic," linoleum would be a good, natural alternative, right?

Nowadays, lino also comes in pretty designs (so not just the blue marmorette look from hospitals) and even in (something like) wood appearance.
Tactilely probably similarly warm or even warmer thanks to the jute/cork backing compared to vinyl?

Expensive, difficult to install, impossible for DIY, and without lobbying power, but healthy and eco-friendly.

Nordlys Beitrag #14 sums it up well, somehow it is easier to find the disadvantages for each floor than the advantages.
