Will travel as usual despite construction. But I also live a bit further away from the construction site and often work over 50 hours on 6 days, so I never manage to get to the construction site before 8 pm anyway. A few weeks of vacation won’t make up for that, just missing 2 Sunday viewings.

Our site manager said he is expecting 3 weeks, as there are still other construction sites currently active. I don’t think anyone will be there tomorrow.

So if earthworks should start at the end of June, when would the masons probably be there? I should ask the site manager.

We are building solid and turnkey with a general contractor.

We haven’t been able to go on vacation for the last 3 years, due to health reasons and of course because of the pandemic.

Our little one suffered the most because she constantly had to make sacrifices.

We are so incredibly in need of a vacation that honestly I am convinced we can definitely switch off.

Since we are building in a gap site, there is nothing else to see here and no other builders etc.

I am just wondering how long I can stay away once the earthworks start.

We also have a building expert, wouldn’t that also ease things a bit?

Yes, I am convinced that we could switch off, we really have an urgent need for a vacation!

Only if the construction would stop because we are not here, that would annoy me!

We see it the same way..

What could they want from us that could influence the construction in any way during the 3 weeks?

In any case, I already wish you a great vacation!!

I reduced my work to 5-10 days a month during the construction phase and my wife had no work obligations. We were often on site to take care of the well-being of our craftsmen and made numerous excursions to select tiles, wall coverings, lights, furnishings, bathroom design, switch programs, details, and so on, and to incorporate them in dialogue with the craftsmen. It was like a months-long vacation and a really great time. Leaving the craftsmen and the construction alone would not have suited us, as we made many decisions on site.

That is, of course, extreme luxury that hardly any builder can actually afford. If financially possible, it is the ideal case.

The same joker who already wanted to move the house? – you notice that yourself, right? That’s a strong argument – especially when all the nonsense is being delayed and you would have been back long ago if it actually started. On the other hand, the jokes about moving the house, road closures, etc. won’t be the last – you probably shouldn’t leave this Bob and his builder buddies alone. Conclusion: go on vacation – but keep someone (godfather, step-grandma) on standby to replace you while you’re away, so you’re always available and can supervise the amateurs who would otherwise mess up your construction spectacularly.
