I just called the GU.

The earthworks are supposed to start in week 25 and then the base slab will follow. The masons are scheduled to be with us in week 33. By then we will already be back.

The GU says: Nothing else will happen after the base slab. It will rather be delayed than go faster.

The base slab will be inspected by our expert. I also called the expert and asked what he thinks of our idea. He also said that we can/should still do it now instead of coming up with the idea to want to travel in autumn.

Since we will be traveling by car, I will book us a hotel with cancellation option. If it does turn out that we have to stay, then we will cancel it, but at least we can go, if the mentioned schedule holds.

Thanks for your opinions!

:eek::eek:

Phew... I guess everyone sees it differently.

Call it blunt or whatever, but for me a house is a house and nothing I associate with deep feelings. Even if I don’t see it grow and thrive, I would move in there and feel comfortable.

I think the foundation slab is enormously underestimated. From my point of view, the most important thing in the entire construction. If something doesn't fit there, you can't change it afterwards (once the shell is up). An external construction supervisor is, I assume, normal and given for everyone. Unless you are a professional yourself.

As someone with a child and a house, I would definitely differentiate the value there, but I think I know what you mean. :D

During the screed curing period (constructed via GU), we had a good week in which nothing happened (could happen) – and used this time for a rather spontaneous vacation on an Aida.

Certainly :) It's somewhat (!) similar to an illegitimate child who suddenly shows up at the door … ;)
