If it doesn’t work, it just doesn’t work, then you think about the next best way. It’s not about THE solution, but the question of vacation or attendance. For the reasons mentioned, I recommend attendance. But there are also... Examples are not very helpful. But there are also people who simply can’t build...

I recently saw a documentary about prefab houses on TV. Of course, the builders want to be there when the walls are flown in with a large crane. The construction manager or a [Bauherren-Babysit] explained everything. But you could clearly see from his expression that he would have preferred if the builders had been on vacation. :D

Yes, of course, on the one hand, the clients are annoying because they see it as an event. On the other hand, the good gentleman would probably prefer not to supervise the rough botching that sometimes happens. The quality will at least not get worse with close construction supervision by the client.

:D so...
1. we lived about 15km away from the house construction and we weren’t there daily but almost, and whenever important work was scheduled, sometimes even 3 times a day, there. Once the toilet was connected, I also spent whole days there
2. I somewhat neglected the masons, because they all came from the village, had a construction trailer with full catering (fridge?) themselves, they then only received something afterwards as a thank you.
As soon as other trades joined after the shell construction, there were always cases of water, it was summer 18 and really hot.
3. Theoretically, we could have lived 600 km away, but we decided to rent in the new region and then calmly look for a plot and the exact desired location. In hindsight the most sensible thing and I would never do it differently if it ever becomes necessary again. Hopefully not.

Assembly dates for prefabricated houses are always celebrated events. Also for the companies. They advertise with the dates - drive by, come and build your next house with the company is desired. The builder takes time off!

Taking photos is not the problem, but you first have to recognize/know what you should photograph and that something might have gone slightly wrong there. But I still won't be able to create a hardly noticeable documentation. After all, we are not present for almost 10 hours a day because of work.

We know quite a few builders who built with this general contractor and a couple whose house will be finished soon. None of them had/has problems during construction. And although all these builders were of the opinion that we wouldn't need an independent expert with this general contractor (waste of money), we engaged one.

I probably wouldn’t even notice if something went wrong there. But that's why I hired the expert, whom I also pay properly for.
