We don't have one but have precautionarily had a socket installed at the position where one should be placed. We have now been living without a towel radiator for 9 months and it will probably stay that way. It feels like coming out of the shower at a water park and having to get dressed. One person freezes and the other doesn't care because they are dry and dressed quickly.

No, you don’t need one. In both of our bathrooms (including the small children's bathroom) it’s about 23-24 degrees and that's enough for us. The towels also dry very quickly because the air in the bathroom is not humid due to the exhaust air.

it depends... a heating system is always designed for an outdoor temperature and a bathroom as the warmest room must always be able to reach at least 23°C AFAIR. And if you live in Nuremberg or even better: on the Swabian Alb at 700 m... yes, then it could get tight on some days at -14°, because the heating engineer will dimension the system for that: If he can’t manage that because you don’t want an additional radiator, then he MUST raise concerns towards you because if you complain in winter that it’s too cold in the bathroom then he has the losing card and can be held liable! If you don’t care about that or are willing to accept it (or maybe once every few years hang in a heater for a few days) then you can certainly do without the towel radiator with its relatively low output! Then you just sign that he has raised concerns and you have acknowledged them. An extra socket in an easily accessible place for a mini heater from 500 (continuous use in the deepest winter) up to 1000 watts (fast heating) for your 4 m² shouldn’t use much electricity and will be completely sufficient in case of need.

Simply just use the walls and, if necessary, the ceiling as heating surfaces. And the heating engineer simply avoids the whole thing by turning up the flow temperature high enough. There is no recourse. So conclusion: nobody needs [Hühnerleiter].

I estimate that over 99% of people live without a towel heater in the bathroom - it is really not "absolutely necessary." It is comfortable and, if planned for from the start, not a financial burden. If space becomes tight: have the pipes installed for connection and then install a bathroom radiator yourself - it remains under 300€ overall and requires little craftsmanship skill.

We have a towel radiator (as the only heat source) and find it very practical. Not only for hanging and drying the towels and washcloths of the children. Since we would otherwise have needed a regular radiator, it was also the better solution visually. I think I would always want something like that in a main bathroom.
