Is a towel radiator mandatory?

Hello,

we were also recommended a towel radiator with an electric heating cartridge or an additional electric heater for our guest bathroom with shower, to be able to quickly raise the temperature when someone is about to shower.

However, since a (quite expensive) towel radiator seemed a bit excessive for the guest bathroom and we find the heaters or fan heaters terribly ugly, we decided against it.

However, we have planned a separate (switchable) socket for a retrofit, in case it should still become necessary.

So far, the closely laid underfloor heating has always managed to achieve a comfortable temperature of 22 - 24° in the guest bathroom.

Regards,

Dirk

I can hardly imagine that you can reach 24° in a 3m² bathroom with about 2m² of heating. Our guest bathroom is about 6m² and we have laid the heating pipe as tightly as possible, basically pipe against pipe. With over 80% coverage, we reach a maximum of 22 degrees with a flow temperature of 30° @ 0° AT, with which we can easily reach 24 degrees in the living room. In your case, only about 2/3 would be covered. But I have also seen houses where heating pipes are laid even in the ground-level shower. Then the floor is always warm there as well and the water evaporates faster. Maybe that could work for you too?

Thank you already for the helpful answers. I will inform myself again and, if necessary, switch to an electric one. That also seems to be more reasonable to me.

I would also install an electric one for the guest WC. If needed, it gets warmer than the 30 to max. 35 degrees supply temperature of the underfloor heating and it is only used when someone wants to shower there. We also have an electric one, which is warm in about 15 minutes and quickly warms the small bathroom a bit... However, with today's knowledge, I would first check if the underfloor heating can also be installed under the shower (and not be easily dismissed...).

So under our floor tiles in the shower, there are heating pipes installed. The floor there is always pleasantly warm, and the water indeed dries relatively quickly. Nevertheless, we wipe the shower down once after use. This topic has also been discussed in another thread here.

Regarding the guest bathroom: At three square meters, it can really get tight with underfloor heating. As far as I know, there are also smaller towel radiators that should be sufficient for this small room. Well positioned, it also serves as a towel holder.

If someone here is asking for a solution, I didn't want to first use the search function to point to a possible solution in another post. In this case, I would lay the underfloor heating throughout the entire room, including under the shower, and seal the pipe as tightly as possible. Then I would also provide a socket for a towel radiator so that, if needed, you don't have to break up the tiles again. However, I would wait to see if it is really needed, unless you want one anyway to hang the towels. In any case, take photos of the unplastered wall to avoid drilling into a pipe or cable during installation! But this actually applies to the whole house; it’s best to take photos everywhere with a measuring tape held against a reference corner...
