Are 10€/m² tiles from a hardware store any good?

Yes, you can use them. We also installed them in the garage.
The baseboard tiles are relatively „expensive“ for that.
I don't like „sausage joints“.

Square tiles (not too large) in a straight joint pattern are said to have 5-10%, diagonal 10-20%. Half and quarter/three-quarter patterns lie somewhere in between. Herringbone is, of course, really bad, but I would only have that done by a professional.

We want to lay 30x60cm tiles. Stack bond or half bond is an option – certainly the most reasonable and simplest laying method for that size. Then I’ll just plan for 10-15% waste and see what I can find over the weekend :)

No. Maybe I will get professional help after all, I am currently waiting for an offer from a company that inspected on Monday and seemed very competent.
