Unfortunately, it is almost the rule nowadays that windows are also installed by laymen. A lot of labor costs can be "saved" during installation when it is done by intern-actors. And skilled workers are so "scarce" that this was a major reason for my withdrawal from the window industry.

We had trouble elsewhere. That’s also why I asked above about the termination, what constellation you had, and about the site manager. Did you hire a new one? If not, prepare for a construction stop, you will get a deadline from the building authority to appoint a new site manager. Do you have a building-related expert? Did you carry out the termination through a lawyer? With the windows, it was “only” the wrong panes. We had to recalculate because of KfW to see if this could be compensated elsewhere. We then did this with the roof windows and had to pay quite a bit more. We left the window installer alone, he was just a poor subcontractor and there would have been nothing to gain from him. We listened to our lawyer and got tips from other builders to first avoid planning unnecessary purchases and instead expect unplanned additional expenses.

How can it be ensured nowadays that windows are still installed professionally?

Hello, I always thought I was the only one who really messed up. Among other things, we also had problems with the windows. The general contractor ordered them in Poland and had them installed by his people, who are anything but specialists. 28 windows installation and "sealing" in 2 days. The windows, including the external roller shutters, are fine, nothing to complain about. Except that the patio doors are 5 cm too short. Well, 1st sealing criticized, after that sealing tapes were stuffed from the outside between the reveal and the frame on the installed windows. 2nd time criticized. Now everything was scraped out again and completely sprayed with foam from inside and outside. Criticized again. Final deadline set and 3-level sealing demanded. Begged a local window fitter to take on the work, who didn't want to at all because of warranty coverage for windows and roller shutters, but ultimately did it.
Costs for windows: €18,000, installation and sealing no. 1: allegedly €10,000; sealing no. 2: €3,000; sealing no. 3: €5,000 and the 4th and last again almost €7,000. The 4th sealing, however, also took 7 working days with 3 workers.

Difficult. There is no DIN standard for window installation, only guidelines. You would already have to make sure in the construction contract, for example, that it says: installation and sealing according to the guidelines of the Institute for Window Technology Rosenheim or sealing with 3-level sealing tape. But who has already dealt with such things at that time?

If I were to build again (I'm still in the middle of it): look at reference projects during installation!

The windows were also only installed "suboptimally" for us and need rework (doors are TOP, was a different provider). We expect feedback from the window manufacturer next week.

You can't see that anymore once the plaster is on, then the whole mess is hidden. They tried that with us too, but unfortunately I had photos. You either notice it after 2 years by mold or better beforehand with a blower door test.
