We always hunted with chocolate. If there was a hollow figure left over from Christmas or Easter, we would roll a ball between our fingers and press it firmly into the wooden mouse trap so that the mouse would have a hard time getting the stuff out. That worked great. The plastic traps (e.g. Supercat) did not work for us, on the other hand. We did not have live traps, so no experience with them.

Hello everyone, another update... The little shrew did end up stepping into the death trap after all and since then there has indeed been peace. Meanwhile, the bees have moved back into the porch floorboards and may have helped me in driving away more mice or it was just one after all. Since I have had bees there every summer, they could also have been the reason why it was only until early summer every year and after that no more smell.

Currently, it remains unchanged with us. Sometimes you don’t smell anything for days and then suddenly again. However, the guest seems to have moved out, because nothing has been heard for days. This has been the case every year so far. We also suspect that it was something bigger than a mouse because it sounded noticeably heavier. This year, it was also once heard visiting the sloping ceiling in our bedroom. Well, I am curious when the smell will completely go away. You only smell it when you enter the room. Once inside, you quickly don’t smell anything anymore. The smell also stays only in this room; even with the door open, nothing escapes into the hallway. It remains curious.
