Hello everyone,

I saw a perfect semi-detached house solution in Switzerland and wonder why this solution is not seen more often... what could be the reason?

The two houses are not built together but stand about 2 meters apart, so there is a passageway. Of course, there are no windows on the passageway side. BUT: each has the front door (opposite each other). The passageway thus functions as the entrance for both houses. The connection between the two houses consists of the roof over the passage/house entrance. This way, no land is wasted, but simply cleverly solved. Advantage: everyone has their own detached house, and thus ultimately not only 3 own walls...

what is supposed to be perfect about that? Maybe you don't hear the neighbors as much anymore. Otherwise, 2 meters of garden are wasted

Totally pointless. Lost 2 meters of space - yet paid for 4 full exterior walls (no party wall that could be smaller). On top of that, sound bridges due to a shared attached porch,... Would not be my ideal semi-detached house idea.

I don't think space is being wasted, because it's only about 10m2 per plot and you almost need that for another house entrance as well. I often see plots being divided and 2 single houses being built on them, where they look into each other's windows. 4. I am happy to pay for an (insulated) house wall if I get 4 own walls instead of just 3! Nowadays, normal single houses feel too cramped to me. In addition, a small storage room for garden tools etc. can also be incorporated into the hallway.

It really gets cozy when you have to stand with several people on a 1m wide access, because the other party is also just coming or going. Space is then wasted endlessly. From 6m house width, only 5m remain – but the entrance is on the side? By the way, I prefer to look into each other's windows with a detached house rather than at a wall like with a semi-detached house ;)
