We want to cover and shade the area in front of the roof towing of our house with a glass-metal construction. The whole thing as an on-roof construction with an electric blind for shading. The construction basically consists of only two posts, which are connected horizontally to each other and at the contact point on the roof. We are talking about a total of 10.5 sqm of roof glass surface with 10mm thick glass. We have obtained two offers and fell short. We are looking at €23,000-26,000, WITHOUT laying the pad foundations for the two supports and without electrician work. We had previously assumed total costs that are half that amount. Is this now the famous "Corona supply chain craftsmanshortage-I can pick my orders" surcharge or have the material prices exploded as the two providers tell us (glass doubled compared to the beginning of the year, aluminum supposedly as well)?

Yep - those are current prices. Custom product. For the layperson "just two stands and connect them with the roof." But that's obviously not how it is in the lives of the responsible craftsmen. Plus with electric shading. That just costs...

Definitely the latter. The former maybe still currently, but it's already getting better again.

I wouldn't buy it for the price. You have chosen something expensive with glass and metal, especially regarding delivery times and energy prices. I would put it on hold for now.

We are considering switching from metal to wood as the frame. We have a reliable good business relationship with a carpentry company and will have them prepare a quote. Unfortunately, wood is also not one of the building materials with stable prices, but we will see. For 23-26k we will definitely not go for the metal solution. After subtracting the items lighting and awning (only one was included), it is still at least 20k, without roof connection (instead a stop at the reinforced front board of the towing) still 18-20k depending on the offer. I stick to my opinion, a few metal uprights with glass in between for 18k is madness, and we are out, even if the money is available.

Hehe, yes, we also spent 26K on our summer garden. Size 5x4m with an awning and glass sliding doors all around. When we bought it, people laughed at us because we supposedly paid too much. They said there were cheaper offers in the West. Meanwhile, the situation has somewhat balanced out, although it was still quite expensive, of course. However, the service was top-notch. We deliberately did not choose wood because it's the south side. You can't paint the beams fast enough before they "melt" under the sun. Besides, painting is quite difficult at that height and with the glass.

Hello Katja, thanks for your note about the south side, that is exactly our problem, i.e. I am back to metal. I don't know when you paid the 26k, probably some time ago. For my 5*2m with three awnings and glass sliding doors, I would come to over 45k, and for us the cost/benefit ratio is not good. It will probably come down to two larger umbrellas for us, which will be set into the newly built terrace with concrete stands, costs about 2k, of course not comparable to a covered solution, but it meets the requirement for shading.
