Don't be such a crybaby!

Then list your arguments “on dry feet.”

Then let them preach. I preach that you shouldn't design your single-family home like a manor house with north and west wings. Anything at or below 10 meters doesn't even need to be discussed.

Nah, I wouldn't have time for that anyway, while I listen to the melody of the raindrops under the glass terrace roof

I just like it. Just like a completely pointless gallery, a red front door, or whatever else. That’s enough of an argument for me – for me and my existence. I understand others who feel differently, but I prefer it this way. There simply is no right or wrong with something like this, and the argument "you don’t need it" is just used to shut things down, because you could always use it. Most of the time you don’t really need any of those things.
My grill is outside, on the covered terrace I like to leave tools lying around at night or my garden shoes always stay dry right in front of the door, terrace furniture is always dry. Of course, my life wouldn’t be worse the other way around either, but that applies to 90% of the things we usually talk about here. So I don’t need arguments because I’m not trying to convince anyone, I’m just saying that I find it nice that way. Otherwise you wouldn’t need sun protection either. You could just close your eyes and not fuss so much.
Most of mine is not covered, not even the 5 meters to the carport, but I find being able to stand dry in the front door quite nice. You young people still want the big adventure.

My idea was exclusively about reducing or adjusting a planned overall roofing.
I have to hit the hay.

You actually provide the answer to your question yourself.

The alternative was a new tarp.

Today I have the budget for the glass roof. Twenty years ago, the DIY tarp for 100 euros was good enough.

I am currently investing in my old house. Photovoltaic system, heat pump instead of gas, terrace roofing, new tarp for the granny flat, etc.

Hello,
and many thanks for all the answers. Unfortunately, I’m currently down with illness, so forgive me if I haven’t read everything very closely. But to a few of your questions:
The size of the terrace is explicitly free of any permits for us. This is even stated in the BayBO. Since it will be a wooden terrace with a gravel substructure, ground sealing is also not an issue. So we are making the terrace the full width of the house.

The additional window in the "terrace wall", which you can’t see in the plan, is indeed large but not floor-to-ceiling because our couch is inside. That’s why we wanted to put a dining area or lounge there.

And I also see it that way, that from under my dry roof, I wouldn’t suddenly want to rush into the house through emerging rain.
The problem with partially roofing it is that the post would end up standing right in the middle of the terrace door and thus impair the view from inside to the garden.
That is also our main consideration.

About the neighbors’ questions: Since an older very friendly lady lives there who has several children, the owner will change within our lifetime. As is usual, a >1000m2 property will then be divided and built on after it is sold. Since such a transfer of setback areas naturally reduces the value of the property, I can understand that she does not want to officially agree to it.

The depth of the roof is rather limited by the budget, since we are officially in snow load zone 3 and thus more than 3m rafter span would become absurdly expensive and bulky (with everyone we talked to).

Thanks for your ideas!

And I did not want to start a dispute with my thread either. I am absolutely aware that everyone has different preferences. That’s why I asked the question out of the blue to get out of my own bubble and be inspired by alternative ideas. Maybe there is something that simply hasn’t occurred to me before. Therefore, I ask you to just leave what has been said as it is and not to feel attacked by other opinions. In any case, I am happy about every suggestion, whether I like it or not. So again, thank you!

You don't need to worry about that at all. In reality, most participants have developed an almost intimate relationship with each other over the past years. And even if not, it would still be positive to have sparked a creative and equally constructive dispute. That's the beauty of it, that everyone presents their point of view and also justifies it, and the questioner can see if they find themselves anywhere in it. Owner-occupied home construction in Germany is already far too ironed out and full of socially perceived norms.
