Hello everyone,

we are still in the planning phase and our floor plan is causing us some headaches. With the current variant, we would have a technical room measuring 5.50 x 2.00 m, so 11 m².

The size is not the problem, but it would be narrow and the question is whether we can fit everything properly in there. Since we are building without a basement, all important technical systems should go in there (complete heating system air heat pump, ventilation system, electrical system, washing machine, dryer, drying rack, and a few shelves for storage).

Do you think this is possible or is 2 m too narrow?

Thanks for your answers.

Best regards
Philipp

Hello Philipp,

our planned technical room, into which pretty much the same should go as in yours, has the dimensions 4.06m x 3.60m (floor area approx. 14.6 sqm).

With a width of 2m, you will only be able to use one side wall and the wall opposite the door as space for placement.

That could be a bit tight...

Best regards,

Dirk

It's quite a thing... what starts as a utility room at the beginning of construction ends up as the technical room... and we no longer know where to do the laundry

Just plan a second utility room on the upper floor. It's a great idea: at least you can carry your laundry out of the room cleanly
The electrician's cabinet needs 150 cm in front of it as a safety buffer! Otherwise, a smart arrangement, with one side for technical equipment and the other for shelves, is a good idea. But it can also quickly happen that the craftsmen have a completely different idea about the location of the individual parts than the planners do (shorter cable routes), and you get negatively surprised. So always ask!

I also find 2m too narrow. We have 3.40 x 3.80 (12.92 sqm respectively 12.71 sqm due to an extra wall for better division) and I think that is a good size to a) be able to move around and b) also be able to store some things.

Attached is our utility room floor plan:

Depending on what is put in, it becomes too narrow. Ours is 2.50m and it is already very tight inside. However, there is also a 300l water tank in the middle on the left side. The door to the dryer opposite still opens, with 2m that would not be possible. Just think about it ... 3 washing machines are about 2m. one on the left, one on the right, you have about 70 cm to walk in the middle. that is tight.

Thank you for the answers. We will probably choose a different option after all.
