This statement is also due to the undifferentiated reporting of the media and does not become more accurate through repetition. The USA has a big problem with gang crime. Many kill each other there. A large number of gun deaths in the USA are due to the high suicide rate. In the "normal" socialized areas, gun crime is not higher than in Europe. By the way, there are far more illegal than legal firearms in Germany. It is estimated that the Russians sold several hundred thousand Kalashnikovs to the German population for little money when they withdrew from Germany in 1990. steven

... and in the end you face an equally armed opponent with your toy guns, who in case of doubt has a real weapon and, unlike you, also knows how to use it. Top solution.

There are some crazies walking around; you can see that again and again in the news. Also in DE. In this respect, the desire for `ner weapon is not so hard to understand. There have already been enough cases where terrible things have happened even under the eyes of surveillance cameras in train stations, S-Bahn trains, etc. What does one (man) do when 3 drugged-up guys approach him and his wife? A real gun wouldn't be so bad for deterrence: Just threaten with it first. Get lost, if not the first one gets something in the leg. I'd rather not watch while they attack my wife...

You have no experience with "real" or even tactical shooting, I assume? If they're already closer than 6-8 meters to you, even a well-practiced shooter does absolutely nothing. By the time they reach you, you might only just remember where your weapon is and how to draw it. By the way, three drugged-up guys don't really care much if you shoot them in the leg.

Even if you hit one, the other two will be happy about your gun. And then cause even more damage.

During my time in the army, I definitely had to shoot with a pistol; result: the shorter the distance, the better. My best hit rate: about 10 meters; anything beyond that was rather depressing. Now I only have a gas pistol, which I find better than nothing at all. I can neither do judo nor karate. But everyone has to decide that for themselves. The fact is: cameras do not offer any real protection.
