I am attaching a question to this topic. We also have a house from the late 60s with a so far quite dry but uninsulated basement, which is probably dry because it has almost constantly open, single-glazed windows and has at least been slightly heated.
We would now like to install two workrooms there. At least one of them is to be used several days a week, so climate comfort would be nice. My idea was to leave most of the basement as it is, but to insulate the two “Nutz” rooms on the inside, equip them with proper windows, and heat them fully.
Can this work?
The alternative would be not to insulate anything, just to divide the rooms, and presumably to use much more energy than before to get these rooms reasonably warm (they currently have about 14-16 degrees constantly without heating).
Alternative 2 would be to insulate and heat the entire basement from the inside.
