Hello everyone,

I am currently marking all the sockets and switches. Now I have reached the stairs and asked myself whether a normal 60mm box is installed there for the lighting or something special. So I searched the internet a bit but didn’t really find anything. Either the lighting looks cheap or it is very expensive (over €100 per piece).

Do you have a recommendation for me? Gladly also some kind of downlight.

Regards and thanks

Stairs are probably always relatively expensive, just because of the labor involved. You have to work very, very precisely and there is also a lot of effort, for example, if every other step is to have a light.

At friends' place, I once saw a "light strip" instead of individual spots, which extended almost the entire length of the (straight) staircase. Would that be an alternative for you? However, I no longer know the costs.

Of course, it's a lot of work but not rocket science. Cut slots into the wall, drill holes for the sockets, put in cables and lights - done. All of this naturally with a certain care and meticulous precision!

I have the same plan, but haven't found proper lamps for it yet. As far as I'm concerned, the lamp can be as discreet and unobtrusive as possible. Also, the light source should be replaceable. Ideally, the whole thing should also be dimmable (but that's not a must).

I don't think much of all those Google-eBay-LED-recessed lights. They are usually ugly plastic bombs that have to be completely replaced when the parts fail.

I'm looking for lamps with a discreet recessed frame (white), GU10 socket, and "downward emitting"... something along those lines.

Sure, it's not rocket science, but you shouldn't be surprised by prices of 100€/ piece.

100€ per piece is way too much for me as well. 20 to 30€ per lamp would be my pain threshold ... just based on gut feeling. Of course, I will do the installation myself.
